Partnership Promotes Healthcare Workforce Development

Adventist Health Clear Lake and Woodland Community College are partnering to launch a new Community Health Worker (CHW) certification program this fall, offering local students a unique opportunity to begin a meaningful career in health and human services — right here in Lake County. This two-semester program blends academic learning with hands-on field training: The college’s Health Services curriculum is paired with practical training provided by Adventist Health Clear Lake’s Community Health Department. This innovative program will give students real-world experience in community-based healthcare.
The program is especially accessible thanks to the Woodland College Promise Program, which covers enrollment and other associated fees — including parking — for eligible students. This makes it an ideal pathway for local high school seniors and community members looking to enter the healthcare field without taking on student debt.
While CHWs are considered entry-level positions, many graduates go on to build careers in social work, public health, and nursing. Adventist Health and Woodland Community College hope this program will help grow and retain Lake County’s local workforce by offering a career pathway rooted in community service and care.
